SUMMARY:Grades 2 or 3: Learning History
DESCRIPTION:Learning History\nObjective: Students will learn about the history of the lands on which we live and the Mojave Desert where Joshua Tree National Park exists. A guest presenter  from 29 Palms Band of Mission Indians (Tribal Historic Preservation Office) will talk with students about the Chemehuevi tribal culture. The Chemehuevi lived on and cherished this land long before us. Through this students will gain an understanding and respect for the Chemehuevi culture and the importance of protecting the land. This knowledge will help students to be stewards of our desert. \nMaterials/Supplies: Provided by JTREE. \nStandards: \n\n\n\n\nK-2-ESS3-3 Earth and Human Activity Communicate solutions that will reduce the impact of humans on the land\, water\, air\, and/or other living things in the local environment. \n\n\n5-ESS3-1 Earth and Human Activity Obtain and combine information about ways individual communities use science ideas to protect the Earth’s resources and environment. \n\n\n2.1 Students differentiate between things that happened long ago and things that happened yesterday. \n\n\n3.2 Students describe the American Indian nations in their local region long ago and in the recent past. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER YOUR CLASS\nTo register your class for this date & time\, please complete and submit the form below.
