Grade 6: Pollinating the Desert
October 25 @ 8:50 am - 9:40 am
Big Questions: How can an environment be altered to maintain biodiversity of an ecosystem?
Small Question: How can we attract and support diverse populations of native pollinators?
Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to analyze a desert ecosystem, construct an evidence-based argument explaining how changes to physical or biological components affect populations, and design a small-scale solution to enhance biodiversity in a desert environment.
Materials: Water bottles and sunscreen. JTREE will provide remaining materials.
Vocabulary:
Desertification, Biodiversity,Adaptation, Interdependence, Invasive Species
Sustainability, Water Scarcity, Restoration
MS-LS2-4 Ecosystems: Interactions,Energy, and Dynamics
Construct an argument supported by empirical evidence that changes to physical or biological components of an ecosystem affect populations.
MS-LS2-5 Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics
Evaluate competing design solutions for maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem services.*
